Special Sessions ‘KIMUAK 25 + 1’ to Celebrate the Rich Legacy of the Catalogue

11/08/2024

KIMUAK has now been supporting and promoting Basque short films through its catalogue for over 25 years. To celebrate this milestone, this programme—run by the Basque Government, in partnership with the Etxepare Basque Institute and Basque. Audiovisual and supported by the Basque Film Archive—has organised two special sessions at ZINEBI, the Bilbao International Festival of Documentary and Short Film.

These sessions will feature screenings of 12 short films and a retrospective of various works that have been part of the catalogue throughout its history.
The first of these special sessions will take place tomorrow, 9th November, at 21:30 in Screen 5 of the Golem Alhóndiga cinemas. Attendees at this first screening will have the chance to see ‘La primera vez’ (Borja Cobeaga, 2011), ‘Mateoren ama’ (Aitor Arregi, José Mari Goenaga, 2019), ‘Deus et Machina’ (Koldo Almandoz, 2012), ‘La Gallina ciega’ (Isabel Herguera, 2005), ‘Hotzanak, For Your Own Safety’ (Izibene Oñederra, 2013), ‘Zela Trovke’ (Asier Altuna, 2013), and ‘El infierno’ (Raúl de la Fuente, 2019).
Meanwhile, the second session will take place on Sunday, 10th November, at 17:00 in Screen 5 of the Golem Alhóndiga cinemas, where the audience will enjoy screenings of ‘Cuerdas’ (Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, 2022), ‘Azaletik azalera’ (Mel Arranz, 2021), ‘Areka’ (Atxur Animazio Taldea, 2021), ‘Gure hormek’ (Las chicas del Pasaik, 2016), and ‘Ximinoa’ (Itziar Leemans, 2023).
Directors such as Moriarti, Cobeaga, Urresola, and Altuna are just a few of the acclaimed filmmakers who have featured in this catalogue, in some cases multiple times. From KIMUAK, we would like to extend our gratitude to all Basque filmmakers for their support and trust throughout our journey, and we encourage them to continue being part of our story.
Here’s to many more years ahead!
